Four Hands Embroidery created two 10 x 13’ vintage sheet panels embroidered with text selected by the artist, Ed Atkins. These panels were prominently displayed in Atkins’ solo exhibition entitled "Get Life/Love's Work" featured at the New Museum in October 2021.
Atkins, known for his high-definition computer-generated animations, sound montages, and writings, explores the relationship between the corporeal and the digital, the ordinary and the uncanny. In this latest project, he delves into the intertwining of bodies and technology, particularly in digital communication and telepresence. Atkins’ work is a thoughtful and sensitive examination of the hidden emotions and experiences that technology can both reveal and conceal.
The "Get Life/Love's Work" project is part of a series of partnerships between artists and researchers from the Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.) program at Nokia Bell Labs, inspired by the interdisciplinary spirit of the 1960s. It is curated by Massimiliano Gioni and accompanied by a catalogue featuring an interview with the artist, as well as texts by other contributors.
