Wide Rainbow

April 2022

Four Hands Embroidery collaborated with the organization Wide Rainbow to create custom digital designs for the Wide Rainbow Library Project. The project aims to inspire libraries for children and families living in under-resourced communities. The initiative was led by Asmaa Walton, a Detroit-based independent curator and arts educator, and Melissa Shin, an architect and designer based in Los Angeles.

Working alongside these talented individuals, Four Hands Embroidery provided their expertise to create and assemble unique and eye-catching embroidered cushions that were used within the libraries. The libraries themselves were curated with over 100 children's books sourced from the Brooklyn-based independent bookstore, Books Are Magic.

The Wide Rainbow Library Project has delivered over 20 libraries to community partners throughout New York City, including families living in shelters, public school students, and youth in community centers. The culturally responsive libraries provide a space for the imagination to run wild, offering a source of inspiration and education for children and families in under-resourced communities.

Four Hands Embroidery is proud to have been a part of this project, using their skills in custom digital embroidery to help bring the vision of the Wide Rainbow Library Project to life.
